How to get blurry backgrounds is one of the top three things our students want to learn when they join our Enthusiast Photography Course. It helps isolate our subject, remove distractions from our background, and is one of the easiest ways to elevate our photos from snapshots to something special.
Lesson 3 covers exactly that, and students jumped into it with relish this week!
We create blurry backgrounds using aperture, which is one of the three elements of manual shooting. Once our students learned how to control it, we sent them out to put the technique into practice so they could create blurry backgrounds on purpose.
We’re sharing a handful of our favourites from the lesson album…

As always, we’re also sharing some of our favourite images taken over the last week by our talented graduates.
If you’re shooting in manual mode, you’ve mastered the basics… but you’re ready to take level up your photography skills, our Advanced Photography Course is for you!
