We all know that feeling of losing ourselves in photography; we find flow and all sense of time and reality fade away. We tune in and create work that speaks to us. Maybe we discover something new or perhaps we create nothing worthy of processing at all but a seed of an idea starts to germinate.

Would you like to find that feeling more often? Would you like to learn how to translate your feelings into your photographs and tap into photography as a means of self expression?
In our next creative workshop beginning on 5th April 2021 – Discovering Your Inner Artist with Almitra Hill – we’ll be looking at how to connect with our emotions and how to convey them through our imagery to create photographs that speak to our viewers on a deeper level. We’ll look at visual language and how to incorporate conceptual devices both into scenes we notice and shoots we plan. We’ll also look at some of Almitra’s favourite shooting techniques to enhance your creative repertoire, as well as share insights into her editing process.

Each week, you’ll apply your learning through a series of creative and technical exercises, alongside practical photo challenges that are designed to push you out of your comfort zone and bring emotional depth to your images.
Almitra has shared a few tips for expressing yourself through your images:
1. Let go of perfection
Let go of perfectionism and approach your photography with an experimental mindset. Mistakes are where the magic happens! Give yourself permission to play.

2. Know your camera
Get to know your camera intimately. If you know what your gear is capable of and which dials and buttons to use without having to think about it or even look, you’ll naturally be far more instinctive in your work.
Childhood moments
3. Slow down
Take a moment of pause to tune into your emotions when you’re out shooting. Your emotional response to a scene will more readily flow into your creative decision-making process and that will shine through in your work. Listen to your gut.
