One of our Advanced Photography Students asked me during our group coaching call last week what I did when I was in a photography rut?
I smiled… oh that photography rut!
I can’t pretend I don’t know her well… we’ve been firm friends lately, as the transition to living in a new country has sapped a lot of energy and left me slightly apathetic towards my camera!
BUT the answer exists, and today I applied it to myself and picked up that beautiful camera of mine and stepped outside!
So what do I do?
- I go outside! Today I sat, perfectly still, and enjoyed my backyard; the breeze, the bugs, the leaves and pine cones laying on the ground beside me at my feet.
- Macro fun. For me, I love flowers, and plants and anything slightly abstract that I can capture and turn into something beautiful… so I like to use my Macro Extension Tubes
and get right up close. (Read more about Macro Photography Here)
- Editing! For me this is half the fun! I love turning a shot into something pretty that I love! I use Lightroom and I keep it all nice and simple.. but I love to add colour, contrast and warmth! That process for me is calming, exciting, and brings back my enthusiasm for photography!
What can you do?
- Head outside!
- Look for inspiration!
- Follow photographers you love, jump on pinterest, look at things differently, shoot lots, try different angles, get up close, far away!
- Try it all out, and see where your heart calls you!
They’re my simple tips, and I’ll keep you posted as I re-acquaint myself with my camera!
Have a gorgeous day!
