So I gotta say, I’m loving this whole baby business 3rd time around (and I did ofcourse 1st and 2nd aswell!) But you’ll notice there’s a big age difference between my kids, because we genuinely did ‘umm and aghh’ for a really long time about whether or not we were done… but I can gratefully say we’d never have it any other way!
And as a Photographer.. well, I’m now spoiled for opportunity right!
Baby on a Bed
One of my favourite places to capture portraits of babies is on a bed, and it’s a beautiful shot that you can replicate with little ones of any age. I wanted to show you how easy it is, and more so because most bedrooms have a window of some sorts, and getting yourself at the end of the bed, down nice and low, with a wide aperture = beautiful photos with natural light.
I was literally sitting about where the laundry basket is (you know I left it there so I could reference for you 😉 ahem!) The only light in the room is from the big window to the right. In the mornings the light streams directly in, and it’s too harsh and directional.. so I wait until a little later in the day so that it’s softer.
Getting down nice and low at eye level with your baby means you get a great perspective, as well as a better chance of eye contact!
These are lovely pose options for babies that can’t sit up yet!I used my 50mm f/1.2 lens, and my settings were: ISO 640, f/ 2.0 SS 1/200s. I converted to B&W in Lightroom.
