When you’ve mastered the basics of photography it can feel so exhilarating; to finally shoot in manual mode, to have control over your camera and know exactly how all the settings work together. It’s a fantastic feeling and something you should be proud of!
But then, as you keep practicing, you might become a little disappointed that the initial growth hasn’t continued, or you’re feeling a little stuck or frustrated that you can’t take your photos to that next level…
Or maybe you simply miss the weekly lessons and challenges of the Enthusiast Course that made you pick up the camera and shoot, and kept the momentum rolling.
And that’s where our Advanced Course steps right in!
When you’re in manual mode, but you’re craving the wow factor, and you can’t quite put your finger on specifically what you need to bring it, we’re here to help!
Our Click Love Grow Advanced Photography Course shows you how to take those next steps. Not just technically so you can keep improving your skills… but creatively, so you can take photos with mood, feeling and emotion, and when you combine the technical and creative with 1:1 feedback to help you see exactly how to keep pushing your photos, it’s a winning combination.
The ultimate goal is to help you stretch your creativity, find your unique style, and flourish and grow as a photographer!
But hey.. words are cheap.
We want to show you what our Advanced Photography Course can do for you, and the best way to do this is to let our grads tell their stories.
So all this week we’re interviewing fabulous grads from CLG… after all, the proof is in the pudding, right?
I’d love for you to meet Carla!
Carla Yeo lives in Dalby, Queensland with her husband and 3 gorgeous daughters. She credits her love of photography to her mother who constantly had a camera in hand throughout Carla’s childhood.
Carla told us she decided to join our Advanced Course as the answer to a deep seated desire to do something that was just for herself.
But much to her continued delight, it exceeded her hopes a thousand fold.
I loved the Click Love Grow Enthusiast Course, and it ignited a passion to learn even more about photography.
Through the CLG community my passion grew even stronger until I found myself going to bed each night thinking about photography, then waking up in the morning thinking about photography again.
So much of what I do on a daily basis is for my family and the kids, and I decided it was MY turn now. So I took the plunge and signed up.
Initially the thought of studying the Advanced Course was a little daunting…
I had no plans to become a professional photographer, but I signed up simply to feed my inner urge to learn more.
In the end, the increased knowledge and confidence gained from taking this course led me to start shooting professionally.
Absolutely yes, it exceeded them!
I knew I would enjoy it, but the Advanced Course was a whole other level of awesome.
My girls all love dance, acrobatics, and performing both at home and at various eisteddfods and competitions throughout the yea, so I wanted to be able to capture all that more creatively.
I have become the resident photographer for their dance academy at various events and so a lot of what I capture for them involves a need to be created. Also, it involves working with tricky artificial light and high intensity action, so those high level technical skills are essential.
When at home and the girls are choreographing routines together in our back yard, it’s under natural light and easier to capture, but there are always obstacles of back yard clutter – hoses, the dog getting in the way etc.
So I’ve loved bringing this action, which is very much a part of our everyday, and capturing it in more creative ways… eg. a silhouette at sunset with an open landscape behind them, shooting from the ground up into the skyline when they are flipping on the trampoline, etc.
We also holiday as much as we can on the coast, and I wanted to record all those holidays in a more inspired way than typical holiday snaps.
I take photos with purpose now and I have complete control over how they turn out.
My mind scans the scene before me and I know instantly how I want this shot to unfold and what I need to do to achieve it.
Then I think about the settings, the lighting, the composition and what I would like to achieve before I even put my finger near the shutter button.
Although I approach my photography in a lifestyle/natural manner and my photos are not overly posed, there is still an element of thought and purpose that goes into each shot, whether it looks staged or not.
I am so proud to call myself a professional photographer now. Carla Yeo Photography came about as a direct result of the knowledge and confidence I gained through completing the Advanced course with CLG.
I love that I have the ability to share my passion of capturing people with others…. and get paid to do it!
I just love capturing real people, their candid interactions, honest emotions and natural connections. The feedback I get from my clients after they see their images and love them brings me great joy.
My favourite aspect was the CLG family which is a special community.
Studying the Advanced course was like sitting around the dinner table with family because the comfort level with everyone was the same…it felt like home… my CLG family!
I loved the teaching support whilst doing the course, and the way the lessons were taught in an easy to understand manner. I was never made to feel silly for asking questions and everything was explained in such an easy to understand way.
For me, this was fantastic because I don’t get technical jargon, so I worried that I wouldn’t ‘get it’. But the support and approach to lesson delivery was amazing and I began to understand a whole lot more about photography.
The constructive and honest feedback, the positive and supportive communication, and the simple manner in which the lessons are taught are all brilliant and relatable.
I would 100% recommend this course, it had me hooked right from the get go!
I have a young family to care for and other commitments so initially I hesitated in signing up, as I honestly thought I wouldn’t find the time to dedicate to it… But I did because of the way the lessons are delivered.
The course is comfortably and realistically paced specifically for busy women!
So if you think you won’t have time to do it, you will.
Do it for yourself… it’s one of the best things I have ever done for me.
It was life changing. I’m forever grateful for having taking the Advanced course, it was the start of something beautiful.
