I can’t believe it’s almost two years ago since we first chatted to Click Love Grow Graduate, Alison Britten, fresh out of our Enthusiast and Advanced Photography Courses she shared with us her progress and journey so far in 2014!
Back then her photography goal was to get out of auto… and it’s fair to say she’s long achieved that goal and some!
Based in NSW, Australia, Alison is now running her own family photography business and sharing incredibly beautiful work with us in our Click Love Grow Grads Community.
So we wanted to catch up again and share how much further she’s come since then…
Since we last caught up…
My business has grown and I am taking regular bookings weekly.
I have changed my style of photography since last chatting with you, and I’m loving the profession of family photography!
With more experience and doing professional development twice a year, I feel a lot more confident with my approach and style of photography.
I have moved away from bright and bold colours to more subtle and natural tones in my photography.
I have studied a lot to produce images that express my creative style and I’m thrilled with my results
Before Photography
Before photography I was a stay at home mother, which I loved, but I wanted to develop my passion further.
After doing the Click Love Grow photography courses I completed a diploma of photography, started my business and have done several workshops and mentoring days.
I find this extremely exciting as this was something I had a passion for and it gave me my independence back.
What do you love about Click Love Grow?
Click Love Grow’s community has grown is truly an amazing place.
It is safe, uplifting, encouraging, educational and positive.
I didn’t have great confidence about my photography but this community has shown such positive encouragement with each image submitted that you feel happy, like you’re achieving something special.
Even for the images that need a little help the members are always helpful, polite, gentle and kind in their approach when they deliver constructive critique.
Your Style…
I started off doing families and now I have branched off into mainly newborn photography.
I love the tiny features of these little innocent babies, their expressions, the calm nature of them, the creative posing, the constant learning and their ability to make you feel all gooey inside!
After 3 years of trying all types of different styles I believe I have finally found a style that suits me and my personality.
It is quite timeless, classic, light, tonal, airy, and dreamy, and using light, location and light clothing to capture the perfect image.
I try to focus on the connections between family members instead of a lot of posing.
What do you shoot with?
I started with a Canon 500D, basic entry level. I only had the kit lenses.
I then brought the 50mm 1.8. It was amazing!
After a year I upgraded to a full frame 6D and love it!
I have the 24-70mm 2.8L lens, the 85mm 1.8mm, 50mm 1.2L and the 50mm 1.8 and a lens baby.
Your Photography Goals Updated
I have achieved my goal of opening my business and keeping it running.
I have also achieved my goal to master the basic posing for newborns.
There is still so much for me to learn along this journey.
I love it and can’t wait to learn new things!
I hope to focus more on wrapping techniques and advanced posing.
