Click Love Grow Students – Artist Spotlight on Bec Nave
If you’re new to photography, you’re probably well-versed in seeking out pockets of lovely soft light in which to capture images. After all, light is probably THE biggest fundamental element of photography. Without light, there can be no photos!
In fact, that’s why one of the first lessons in our Enthusiast Photography Course is dedicated entirely to finding and using soft light.
But life doesn’t always happen in nice, predictable soft light! And that’s exactly what Click Love Grow Grad Bec found out as she tried to document life around their busy dairy farm.
After finishing the Enthusiast Photography Course, Bec felt confident in manual mode and working with soft light. Now she was ready to take the next steps in her learning so that she could capture her family in the ever-changing light on their farm, no matter what time of day.
Read on to find out how Bec became a master of ALL types of light…
Meet Bec!
Hi, I’m Bec! I live on a dairy farm in rural Victoria with my hubby, our three children, 180 milking cows and a handful of beef cows!
Something Just For Me
Life on a working dairy farm is pretty full on, especially when you throw three kids into the mix. But in 2020, when the COVID pandemic first hit, I found myself feeling a little restless.
I was about to turn 40, and I began to realise that while I had a busy and fulfilling life, I didn’t really have anything that was just for me. I had loved photography at high school, so I decided to buy myself a good camera and learn photography.
It was definitely an exercise in patience! It took nearly 6 months for my camera to arrive (the joys of living remotely during a global pandemic!). So while I waited, I began looking at anything and everything photography-related that I could find online.
And that’s how I first found Click Love Grow.
I loved the encouragement and inclusiveness of the CLG Community on Facebook. So when my camera finally arrived, I signed up for the Enthusiast Photography Course.
It turned out to be the just the start of my love affair with photography!
Hungry For More
The Enthusiast course gave me a really strong grounding in manual mode and the basics of light and composition, but I was hungry for more. I wanted to keep using and practicing the skills I’d learned, and I also wanted to dive deeper into all things photography.
Most importantly, I wanted to be able to tackle all kinds of light so I could capture every moment of life around the farm, no matter what the light conditions!
If I had to sum up my biggest takeaway from the Advanced Course in a single word, it would be ‘light’ – learning about all the different types of light and how they can dramatically elevate my images was a total gamechanger!
I still really love getting my camera out during golden hour and blue hour, but I also now have the confidence to tackle harsh midday sunlight and moody overcast days so I can capture farm life no matter what the light might be on any given day.
The Course That Keeps On Giving
I loved that the instructors were so encouraging with their feedback.
The course Facebook group was a safe and welcoming place to learn, experiment and grow, and no question was too silly to ask.
One of the best things about learning with Click Love Grow is that you have lifetime access to all the materials.
I printed all the lessons so I can refer back to them – and I do dip into them regularly to check a technical aspect I’m struggling with or find inspiration when my creative mojo is a bit flat.
It really is the course that keeps on giving!
Memories To Keep
I’ve always loved taking photos of life around the farm, but since taking the Advanced Course, I now see the world around me in a completely different light… literally!
The skills I developed mean I can now document our farm life with confidence and know that the images I’m taking aren’t just snapshots, rather they are beautiful images that we will be able to cherish and look back on for many years to come.
Why Should YOU Sign Up For The Advanced Photography Course?
Honestly, if you’re still not sure whether to hit ‘Register Now’, just do it!
I have loved learning with CLG, and I’ve never looked back. You wont regret it.
With the Advanced Course, you have two weeks for each module so there is plenty of time to get out and practice.
And it doesn’t matter what type of photography you like CLG has so many different workshops that cater for everyone and get your creative juices flowing.
Before & After
You know how much we love a before and after set, and Bec’s is absolutely incredible! Bec’s before photo is a lovely portrait with nice, safe, soft light, but it doesn’t have much ‘wow’ factor. But her after photo is stunning, and shows a much deeper understanding of how to work with dynamic light!
